Bi-Polar days

The attitudes received as a sub are as manic as Minnesota Winter Weather.  One day I am all cool and they are happy to see me and after almost a week the "new car appeal" wears off and they want me gone.  Even though I have been here the better part of the school year and know what's going on.

After yesterday's catty girl attitudes I came to school knowing I wasn't going to be on anyone's christmas card list.  I am beginning to see that the students aren't going to accomplish all the work that the teacher wanted them to do.  2 days left and all I can say is

Game on

Bloody Valentine's Day

A day like today brought out the haters, lovers, and general holiday abstainers.  I for one didn't realize how extreme it would be in the public school setting.  Boy was I wrong.

You could cut the tension in the classroom with a knife.  Girls were either all in love or they were at each other's throat over something as trivial as an energy drink.  Guys were just lucky if they remembered it was a holiday. I, on the other hand, was surprised that the almost adult aged students thought they should have some sort of valentine's party I thought that ended when you got to high school.

Maniac Mondays

Back to the ALC for the rest of the week.  I started out with direct opposition from a student that hasn't been here for a while.  A student that has stated their dislike of me in particular and holds nothing back.  I deal with it all and still come out with a smile on my face.  I actually very much like it here.  I never thought I would understand the ALC...at one time I was actually scared of the establishment.  After multiple sub times I see the value.  I enjoy the kids and I come back as much as possible.  Well well day 1 of the week.  I guess just keep smiling.

A starting point

February 10th and after almost 2 years of subbing I am now deciding to document my time.  Good idea?  Yet to be decided. I continue to work the sub circuit going from school to school and week to week.  This week I am lucky enough to be at the #115 ALC  it has become almost like family for me.  I look forward to my time there and it does feel as if I give them preferential treatment-meaning I go there first.

I am the Social Studies sub till Friday of next week.  I was fortunate enough to have detailed plans set out for me.  Too bad that there are hardly any kids to actually partake in the academic events.  Attendance is pretty low as of lately.  None the less I am very happy to be here.
